Take Me Out to the Ballgame...

Today was Opening Day for baseball. I took the day off and went to see the Rangers play. Unfortunately they lost 7-3 to the Red Sox. But that's ok, they'll do better when I go back Wednesday night with some friends from work. We had really good seats today thanks to my friend Lori's husband's hook-up. It's nice to have connections sometimes. :)
The biggest flag I've ever seen.
Unfortunately my favorite Rangers player David Dellucci got traded to the Phillies this weekend. So Opening Day just wasn't quite the same without him there today. :(
They didn't time these fighter jets correctly, so they drowned out the 2nd part of Charley Pride singing the national anthem. You gotta love a man in a uniform. :)
I always thought when we were at Tech that we had school spirit until I moved to Texas. Well, actually, my first encounter with Aggies was at Cho-Yeh during college. But now that I live in Texas and am surrounded by Aggies and Longhorns and Sooners (oh my!), it makes me think we don't have as much school spirit as we should have. UT's coach Mack Brown got to throw out the first pitch today and their band was part of the pre-game show. There was burnt orange everywhere! A lot of times when people around here ask where I went to school, I have to clarify LOUISIANA Tech, not Texas Tech. Most of them have heard of LSU, but usually not La Tech. It makes me sad that it's not more well-known. You'd think since it's only 4 hours away, it would be more familiar, but it's not. So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm glad I grew up in Ruston and knew about Tech and had the privilege of going there. I love the memories I have from those 5 :) years of my life. What's one of your favorite memories from college? (And surely it involves me!) ha ha!

sorry they traded your man. i see from your pic that beth ann's man is still there. so jealous that you got to go to a game on opening day! i only got to see the last couple of innings of my braves today(on tv)after work. we won but it wasn't pretty. and tomorrow my man is pitching but it won't be televised here which vexes me exceedingly...

Miss Mandy...I have several favorite memories of Tech and many involve you! One I will always remember is getting our REAL Christmas tree and singing Mariah Carey's songs with the spotlight from the oven. Need I say more??!!

Shandra said...

yeah...i don't remember you in college.

Looks like you love baseball! I bet it's fun living that close to a professional league - all we have is basketball here (The Blazers) and they aren't too great. I went one time to see the Rangers one time while working at Pinecove. Not sure if I watch the game much - HA! Favorite memory from college - I feel so left out that I only went my freshman year! I do remember spending lots of time in your dorm room you shared with Jenn & Brandi - and long talks about my bad choice in a boyfriend... you all were right! ;-) We need to listen to our girlfriends more! Jessica H

One more thing - do you ever hear from Brandi? JH

Stacy said...

no way, you went to tech? oh wait you were with me on worship council. was that the year that ole chuck had something to say about EVERYTHING? bless his heart, as if the meetings weren't long enough, we always had to account for his diarrhea of the mouth. i get my bsu council years mixed up so that might have been the year before you were on council and it wasn't even a favorite tech memory anyway, so seriously...you went to tech??? :)

Shandra said...

mandy...did your man enjoy the game?

i've been trying to think of a memory and all i reall remember is spending the night at y'alls house and you sleeping until noon!! :) ummm...yeah, i just can't really think. sorry g

Mandy said...

Y'all are sooooo funny! Yes Shandra, my man had fun. What man?

Jessica, I remember you coming to our dorm room too. I haven't seen Brandi in a long time. She's in the Dallas Ft. Worth area though...somewhere. :)

Yes Stacy, I was on the worship council. I had forgotten about that. Good times! :)

I loved dancing in the spotlight with you and Sara, Carrie. :)

I guess no one has fond memories of Tech?!?! :)

Shandra said...

mandy you said memories of you at tech didn't you? and i said i remember you sleeping late all the time!! what more do you want? i can't think that far back. the only thing i remember about y'alls house is going on icee runs w/ carrie and doing a drive-by to matt's house and some boy carrie knew. oh the days! remember carrie backed into that tree? what the heck!!?? how long did the girl live there? did that tree just grow over night? i don't think so!!

Anonymous said...

HA!! I remember Mandy sleeping til noon as well. And yes, I remember backing into the tree. I still have pics of that...somewhere. Shan...can't forget the icees with a drive by..Oh the days!!!!!!!!!

mandy, i thinking...

I remember being parked in Mandy and Carrie's driveway, and Mandy turning her steering wheel too quickly and backing into my car! That wasn't exactly a fond memory, but it's the one that sticks out the most in my recolection at the moment. It was only a slight fender bender and it got fixed super easy. Sorry Man, but I had to throw that one in there for old times sake. And Shan...I'm pretty sure the man you were referring to w/ Carrie was Jason Adams! Yuck. Oh the days of stalking.

Shandra said...

Well, Stacy...I wasn't going to throw Jason's name out there b/c I didn't know if every knew. But girl...throw it out there!!!

Stacy said...

i knew a jason adams once. though i didn't know he went to tech. it is a common name though. was this a guy you ruston girls knew from high school?

Anonymous said...

OH PLEASE...don't give the satisfaction to that name...UGH!! I was young and STUPID. :)

Anonymous said...

Love you, Carrie Claire! I just had to throw Jason's name out there for old times sake. Oh..those were the days!

Stacy said...

so are you non-blogging girls gonna tell me if this is the same jason i knew way back in the day or not? c'mon i'm curious...

Anonymous said...

Conville- I'm not sure if it's the same guy...Carrie could certainly tell you more details about him than I could. This Jason Adams graduated in 1994 (I think) from Cedar Creek. He was big into baseball, but I don't think he ever played for Tech. Again, I don't really know all that much about him. Sorry!

Anonymous said...

Man-I forgot to tell you that I'm so jealous that you got to attend that game! I would've loved to have been there. Amy Fewell and another friend managed to sneak down and sit not too far from where Mac Brown was sitting on the 1st base line. I'm sure you didn't see her. Glad you took those pics so I can visualize what it was like! Maybe we can go to a game together sometime and observe the men in uniform!

Stacy said...

well i went to elementary school with this jason but never saw him again after 6th grade (or maybe jr. high, i forget which)b/c he travelled over to ruston to go to cedar creek. and since i graduated in 94 too, i'm thinking it's the same guy...

Stacy said...

watched your man dave play tonight against my braves. we won. sorry. but he looked good at the plate...i don't remember how he did but he looked good doing it :)

Mandy said...

It's always been about Dave's looks! :) He struck out...again. He misses me so much that he can't focus on baseball anymore. I've got to get cable so I can watch more games! When are you coming this summer for a game?

Megan said...

i finally thought of one...the suprise party todd threw for me at 216 w. line. i was so tired & ready to go back to the dorm, but he forced me to "drop" by his house for just a second. i was totally suprised when i found two rooms packed full of people ready to celebrate with me. i was a mere freshman so it special to see so many folks there to celebrate my birthday. do any of you remember this?

Mandy said...

I remember that party. You were so surprised you cried, right? :) It was sweet!

I really enjoyed that summer y'all got married when we did dinner club. Those were good times. And summer Bible studies at the Renshaws were great too!

Megan said...

Those are great memories. I have a whole scrapbook page dedicated to "butt" pictures we took that summer when we dined together. Ruston in the summer...fun times!

Mandy said...

Awww, I haven't thought about the butt pictures in a long time. Those boys loved stealing my camera and taking pictures of butts! I wish I had scrapbooked back then (not that I do now either!). :) I just have a shoebox full of pics.

Shandra said...

oh my gosh...the "butt" pictures. i would get so annoyed when i would get my film back and those dorky boys would have their butts all over the place. what nerds!

megan, i think i went to a surprise party for you? wasn't that you? i know it wasn't your freshman year b/c i don't think i knew you then...or was at tech then. i can't remember. if that was you then where were we? i remember a pool!

ashley said...

i remember butt pictures - but i remember Mandy "groping" one butt in particular...do you remember that night Mandy? Jessica? either of you?

Shandra said...

ashley...your hubby was t leader of the butt pictures!! :) i had plenty of his butt!

Anonymous said...

Butt pictures? I don't know what you ladies are talking about. However, I do remember having a good time during the summer of dinner club. I really don't remember contributing anything to the meal, well, other than good conversation, occasional humor and a few photography opportunities.

Mandy said...

Ok, I guess I'm going to have to break down and look for some butt pictures to put on here. But I don't have a scanner at home. I would hate for someone at work to see me scanning pictures of butts. :) I can just see that on the 10:00 news...2nd grade teacher spends her planning time scanning inappropriate pictures at work! :)

Megan said...

shandra, you are thinking of todd's suprise party at our adoptive parent's home the summer after we married. mandy, i have a scanner & butt pictures. i'll try to do a new post featuring some famous rear ends :)

Shandra said...

oh!..that's right megan. seems like so long a go!...well, i guess it was!

mandy...what the heck? we need a new post!

are you still AT the ballpark??? update already...

Shandra said...

mandy just wants us to knock her comments back up to 50...i'm not falling for it!

There is a Jason Adams coaching at Cedar Creek now. Heard he played baseball back in his day. He married Amy Gatlin from Jonesboro. They are both at Cedar Creek teaching. SOOOOOO - Carrie - you were stalking him back in the day?

Anonymous said...

That is him, Mrs. Kathy. No, he stalked me! HA! It was one of those things where he said he wanted to marry me, then would treat me like dirt. For example, he was dating Amy, yet would call me to come over because he was sick of her. So sad. But he did call to tell me he was engaged and said he had a change of heart. So I guess it's true--everyone CAN grow up!

knelson said...

Oh wait - I made a mistake - It's JOEY Adams that married Amy Gatlin. JASON is his brother - I don't know anything about his personal relationships....except of course now ya'lls! :)

Anonymous said...

Jason also works at CC. Hopefully he has changed A LOT since the high school/college days! :)

Stacy said...

my only memory of jason was that he was "going with" a couple of friends of mine back in 6th grade (not at the same time). and he was much shorter than my friends. i'm picturing one particular photo of his flexing his "muscles" for the camera with my friend towering above him. boys, they do take longer to grow up...

Shandra said...

Mrs. Kathy...I was with Carrie during those stalking days! I tried to tell her she could do much better than him!! :) Carrie, remember how you would be like... okay...look! b/c it was so hard to see his house from the road and there was that bad curve?

Mandy said...

Ok, enough talk about that dumb boy Jason Adams on my blog! :) But Shandra knows how I love for my comments to get up to 50 though. :)

Stacy said...

well if SOMEONE would update her flippin blog, we wouldn't continue to talk about jason adams, now would we? if there was a way to post pics here i would even post pics of the boy from back in the day to clog up your comments with that "dumb boy"...so for the umpteenth time UPDATE! according to todd's friend, your blog would classify as a blahg now. i'm just saying...

Anonymous said...

AMEN TO THAT! Post something new so we will have something to talk about! Let's all guess what Keri Walker Taylor is going to name her baby...or Shan...does she already know?

Shandra said...

i didn't ask her. don't say what it is b/c i don't know if she wants me telling. like i said..we didn't talk long b/c her dad called.

ok...i'm cracking up at the whole "blahg" comment. that's hilarious!..and mandy your 'blahg' is BORING!

Mandy said...

But I'm almost to 50 comments now, Shandra. :) I just haven't had much time to read everybody else's blogs lately, much less post something myself. I've got a class blog now so I'm tired of blogging by the time I get home. :) We're on the homestretch of the last 6 weeks of school. Give me 6 weeks then I'll post everyday about my trip to the pool. :)

knelson said...

ok, ok, it's 50 now - what's NEW with you sweet Mandy? :)

Anonymous said...

I've gotten to where Mandy's is the last blog I check b/c I have a feelin I'm just gonna initially see those darn Rangers pics (and I love the Rangers, but I'm sick of no posts). If you're gonna have a blog then you need to let us know what's going on. That's why I'm blogless...I know I wouldn't update like I should! And now Mandy has officially reached over 50 comments!
